#43: Michael Faraday (1791-1867)

Michael Faraday (1791-1867) was an English chemist and physicist who was an influential pioneer in the fields of electromagnetism and electrochemistry.

Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction, the principle behind the electric transformer and generator, and he formed the foundation for the magnetic field concept in physics. He also discovered that magnetism could affect rays of light and that a relationship exists between the two phenomena. His inventions of electromagnetic rotary devices established the basis of electric motor technology.

Faraday’s contributions were crucial in laying the foundation for electricity to be transformed from a scientific curiosity into a powerful new technology that would benefit humanity unlike any technology before it.
